This is probably the funniest thing ever!

By Jerry • Mar 25th, 2008 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Featured

Have you ever wondered if dogs suffered from ADHD?  Well, now you don’t have to.  Apparently there is a medication on the market to help your pooch handle his impulsive behavior.

This is a spoof!  Please don’t take this seriously.  I died laughing when I saw it so I thought I’d share!

Business and life coach thinks many adults with ADHD are perfectly suited to be entrepreneurs

By Jerry • Mar 18th, 2008 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Featured

Business and life coach Linda Walker thinks that “…many ADHDers are perfectly suited for entrepreneurship.”   She feels that we “…tend to be “Big Picture” thinkers who are great visionaries, very important qualities in leadership.” Linda details her statements in her blog post entitled ADHD Adults Shouldn’t Be Entrepreneurs?

I agree with Linda.  In most of the positions I’ve held in my life I have quickly become both the “Idea Guy” and the “Problem Solver” for the company I was working for.  Having ADHD allowed me to think up concepts with great enthusiasm, to get caught up in the moment and simply…

It looks like big brother is at it again. According to Amy Morton, who runs a blog called “Georgia Women Vote!”, the Georgia state senate has an important and slightly disturbing decision to make. In her post titled “I’m Not So Sure About This“, Amy details a new bill that, if ratified, will require pharmacies to disclose a list of all prescriptions of any Schedule II, III or IV drug to a state-wide permanent law enforcement database.

The bill, titled the Georgia Prescription Monitoring Program Act, at its core is:

…intended to improve the state´s ability to identify and stop diversion…

The “Mean Mom” gives her thoughts on chores and ADHD

By Jerry • Mar 8th, 2008 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Blog Entries, Featured

It’s not often that I find a post on this subject that I approve of. Generally when asked about chores or household duties and kids with ADHD too many people feel that the child should be allowed a lot of slack in the process… If they have the child doing anything at all.

I call BULLSH*T! And so does the Mean Mom in her blog post titled “Chores for 13-year-old ADHD Son“.

The fact of the matter is, a 13-year-old child with ADHD should be able to handle almost any or all of the same chores a13-year-old child without ADHD…

Followup to Life coach wonders if ADHD is contagious

By Jerry • Feb 16th, 2008 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, ADHD in the News

There was quite a bit of discussion following the post titled Life coach wonders if ADHD is contagious, both from readers and from the original author of that post.  This is to be expected when the issues being discussed are as controversial as the topics covered here.  There are two very distinct and equally passionate schools of thought on the subject of ADHD. (Bipolar disorder is more cut-and-dried, if you will, as the symptoms are pretty globally recognized.) While I encourage discussion, I feel that tempers may have flared in this instance and I would like to focus on what…

Finding Humor in ADHD

By Jerry • Dec 28th, 2007 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Blog Entries

I’m a firm believer in the concept of laughing at what other people call my “shortcomings”. as an adult with ADHD, completing what most “normal” people call simple tasks can be nearly overwhelming for me. Why? Because I simply forget to get them done. Something else comes along and “whoosh!”, I’m off on that tangent.

I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Douglas Cooty writes The Splintered Mind, a blog on “Overcoming ADHD & Depression With Lots Of Humor and Attitude”. If the title of the blog wasn’t enough to get you interested, her’s a short blurb from his pot…

A followup to “The Mother of an autistic child speaks her piece about new NYU ad campaign”

By Jerry • Dec 28th, 2007 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Blog Entries

In a previous post, I wrote about Susan Senator and her issues with the New York University’s Ad campaign on Mental Illness.  This advertising campaign was designed to look like “ransom notes” from the illnesses themselves, but Susan and many other parents (myself included) found them to be rather tactless and downright disturbing.

I’m pleased to say that Susan dropped me a line to say that the campaign has been ended.  The NYU Child Study Center offered this in the way of an offhanded apology for the campaign:

When we launched our “Ransom Notes” public awareness campaign two weeks ago, our…

New information on Adults with ADD/ADHD

By Jerry • Dec 20th, 2007 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Blog Entries

Seems that I’m not the only person who has ever suffered a few difficulties in life due to adult ADHD. This Post on youraddnews.com discusses the symptoms and effects of ADHD on the adult. I found it very good reading, and I hope that you will too.

If there was ever such a thing as THE comprehensive reading list.

By Jerry • Dec 10th, 2007 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Bipolar Disorder Blog Entries, Blog Entries

I’ve seen a lot of ADHD blogs stating you should read one book or another.  Generally if you dig a bit deeper you’ll find that the site is run by the autor, or that the blog owner has something to gain from your purchase, and therefore continues to push the same book over-and-over, regardless of the fact that there are literally hundreds of books that deal with ADHD and comorbid conditions.

Today I discovered a blogger who, like me, is the parent of a child with ADHD.  Charles has a lot to say, and in this post has compiled a list…

The Mother of an autistic child speaks her piece about new NYU ad campaign

By Jerry • Dec 10th, 2007 • Category: ADHD Blog Entries, Blog Entries

I find the most interesting and intelligently written articles on LD and mental health issues on the Internet. Not usually at sites run by doctors, Psychiatrists or therapists, but on blogs run by the parents of, or the people with, the conditions they are writing about.

this really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s stopped to think about it. We are the people that actually live with these disorders. I’m not knocking the medical community, but in all honesty, I doubt many psychologists out there actually have ADHD, ADD, BiPolar Disorder, Autism, or any of the other conditions…
